Director of Operations

We are seeking an experienced Director of Operations (DOO) to oversee operations across all locations, ensuring efficiency, profitability, and unparalleled customer satisfaction in all areas of service and rental operations. 

 

Position Overview

The Director of Operations will oversee the daily operations of our six Long Island locations, with responsibilities including marina dockage & services, boat rentals, maintenance, repairs, and storage. This individual will work closely with ownership and department leaders to optimize processes, drive growth, and maintain the exceptional standards that Strong’s Marine is known for. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct business in a respectful, professional and ethical manner always.
  • Communicate professionally with Internal and External Clients as appropriate.
  • Proactively seek ways to improve profitability and grow Strong’s brand service business.
  • Nurture positive and productive working relationships with Clients and Team members.
  • Follow workflow processes and make recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
  • Maintain safe, properly equipped, and well-organized work environments.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management:

  • Oversee daily operations at all locations, including marina dockage & services, boat rentals, maintenance, and storage.
  • Implement and refine operational workflows to maximize efficiency and enhance the customer experience.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and regulatory standards relevant to marina and rental operations.

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead and support a team of managers, technicians, rental staff, and marina personnel across multiple locations.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish performance goals, provide mentorship, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Assist the General Managers in recruiting, training, and developing high-performing teams, ensuring a knowledgeable and motivated team.
  • Implement staff training programs focused on safety, service, and operational excellence.

Boat Rentals Management:

  • Oversee and optimize the Boat Rental & Club program, including fleet management, scheduling, and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop strategies to grow the rental business and enhance its profitability.
  • Ensure the fleet is maintained to the highest safety and quality standards.

Financial Oversight:

  • Develop and manage budgets for all locations, ensuring financial objectives are met or exceeded.
  • Analyze financial performance, including P&L reports, to identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth.
  • Collaborate with ownership to create pricing strategies and optimize profitability.

Customer Experience Excellence:

  • Ensure Strong’s Marine continues to deliver the "Strong’s experience" by providing best-in-class customer service.
  • Respond to and resolve escalated customer issues quickly and effectively.
  • Lead initiatives to increase customer satisfaction, loyalty, and retention.

Strategic Planning and Growth:

  • Partner with ownership to develop and execute long-term growth strategies for the business.
  • Identify opportunities for new services, operational enhancements, and market expansion.
  • Oversee capital improvement projects, including marina upgrades and facility expansions.

Asset and Inventory Management:

  • Manage the maintenance and readiness of rental fleets, marina facilities, and equipment.
  • Ensure adequate inventory levels for parts and supplies to meet customer demand efficiently.
  • Oversee maintenance schedules to ensure all facilities and assets remain in excellent condition.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • 5+ years of operations management experience, preferably in the marine, hospitality, or rental industries.
  • Proven experience managing multi-location businesses with a focus on operational excellence.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management.
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, encourage and motivate teams.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of marina operations and boat rental workflows is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Long Island’s boating community and market is a plus.
